Featured Artist this Month: Maria Schechter
In the upcoming meeting, our newest board member Maria Schechter will present her art and her processes. She is currently showing her work in two Indiana galleries: “Up Close: Blooming Earth” at the Waldon Arts Center in Bloomington, and “24 Blooms & 24 Recipes, 2024” at the Hamilton County Public Library East in Fishers, Indiana. Her works are botanical creations that highlight the use of foraged materials and botanical painting methods using mycelium as a medium. The goal of her work is to bring awareness to the delicacy of our planet and its natural wonders. Through the use of healthier materials for a healthier world, we inspire future generations of stewards and battle “Eco-Grief.”
Hope to see you there!

Did You Know? “The Great Honeybee Fallacy”
For years, people have thought European Honeybees were at imminent risk of extinction, despite all evidence to the contrary. The idea that honeybees need our help is one of our most curiously persistent cultural myths. “Save the bees” rhetoric is well intended, but it is also unhelpful. Vastly more worrying and much more real: The population of wild bees has been decreasing steadily for years. Moreover, insects of all kinds are declining in record numbers, and their deaths will have repercussions we cannot even imagine.

The Environmental Voter Project Uses Data-driven Methods to Engage Voters Who Wouldn’t Otherwise Vote
The Environmental Voter Project estimates that over eight million environmentalists did not vote in the 2020 presidential election, and over thirteen million skipped the 2022 midterms. This nonpartisan nonprofit organization focuses on a simple, high-leverage solution to this problem: accurately identifying these non-voting environmentalists and efficiently converting them into a critical mass of consistent voters that will soon be too big for politicians to ignore. EVP uses sophisticated data analysis, behavioral science, personalized messaging, and targeted outreach to identify inactive environmentalists. By targeting these individuals, they aim to increase voter turnout among environmentally conscious citizens. Remember, every vote counts, especially when it comes to protecting our planet!
