The Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington, in collaboration with the Bloomington Watercolor Society, Upland Plein Air, The Portrait Group, and Artists for Climate Awareness, will host the Third Annual Bloomington Paint Out on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event, supported by the Bloomington Arts Commission and Psi Theta Iota, promises a vibrant day of artistic expression and community engagement, rain or shine.
The event will be held at the Woodlawn Pavilion in Bryan Park, located next to the swimming pool. Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this free event. No advance registration is required, but artists must check in at the Pavilion between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on the day of the event to have their canvases or multi-media paper stamped before beginning their work.
Participants are encouraged to explore Bloomington and create original artwork of any subject in any medium. All stamped and tagged works must be completed and returned to the Woodlawn Pavilion by 3:00 p.m. to be eligible for judging. Artists should mark their completed pieces with their name and contact information on the back and avoid signing their artwork until after judging. Wet oil paintings should be framed for safe handling, or artists can bring their own easel or display setup.
Awards will be presented in various categories, including Professional Artists, Adult Artists, Teens (ages 12-17), Youth (ages 7-11), and Collaborative Art. This inclusive event aims to celebrate creativity across all age groups and experience levels.
Throughout the day, the Pavilion will host art classes for all ages from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., alongside artist demonstrations. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint with experienced artists and learn new techniques.
Artists for Climate Awareness will be in the Pavilion, offering:
In addition to the visual arts, the event will feature music, storytelling, and poetry readings, making it a day filled with diverse cultural activities. Friends, family members, and observers are encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities. Picnic areas will be available for those who wish to bring their own food and enjoy a day in the park.
