Meditative Writing Workshop

March 2 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

image of fountain pen and writing on paperThis meditative writing workshop offers a receptive space for self-reflection and expression for writers of all types and levels.

Through the exercise of writing, participants can manage stress and foster a sense of hope and a path forward by channeling emotions into constructive, positive narratives. For those with eco-anxiety, it can be a therapeutic outlet for addressing ecological concerns while cultivating a mindset of optimism and action.

Three Saturdays:  March 2, 9, 16, 11:00 am-12:30 pm (Eastern)

Skill level: This class is good for writers of any type and skill set: narrative, essay, poetry, memoir, and journaling.  It is an opportunity to gain fresh and new ideas, not necessarily a finished product.  It is a judgement-free zone.

Supplies: All you need is a writing tool that moves nicely and feels good in your hand, paper to write on (a spiral notebook provides easy-to-turn pages) and an open mind–leaving your inner critic at home.

Instructor and Format: The workshop, offered on Zoom, is facilitated by Pauline Kochanski, artist, instructor, and meditation coach in Chicago.

Class will begin with an invitation to be relaxed and present with the work we are doing. The class time will allow for us to do at least two 10-minute writing sessions each week. For each session, the inspiration will be a theme, topic or word offered by Pauline.

In each session:

  • Participants will write for 10 minutes, keeping pen to paper
  • We will then read out loud what we wrote with deep listening from each one of us

Deep listening is a gift to the reader and the listener. Deep listening means:

  • No commentary
  • No critique
  • No head nodding

Engagement in this method of practice and observation can result in improved writing skills, but also increased self-awareness, enhanced creativity, and an improved sense of agency.

Fee: $45. (Member discount is not available. Because of the individual attention involved, there is a limit on the number of participants.)

Artists for Climate Awareness logoArtists for Climate Awareness is pleased to offer this workshop as part of its series to help artists learn how to use art as a way to bring social awareness to conservation efforts in your communities.
