“Climate Co-lab” art & science project, in conjunction with 2027 Earth Month Exhibition
A Brushes for a Better Planet project of ACA
Beginning in October, Artists for Climate Awareness will be calling for at least six Indiana‑based scientists to open their field sites, labs, and community partnerships to artists. ACA has accepted a grant from the City of Bloomington Arts Commission to pay the artists to work with the scientists to produce art. Each artist will shadow their assigned researcher for a day of hands‑on fieldwork, then create a collaborative artwork inspired by the experience.
The “Climate Co‑lab” project, will be part of an inspiring exhibition of 2‑D and 3‑D artwork presented at the IU McCalla Collections Bloomington, IN. The exhibition, scheduled to open April 13, will showcase work created by these artists, who have translated their shared research outings into art. The project is ACA-hosted and organized by Lily Shan with Brushes for a Better Planet. This artist-scientist project follows a “hackathon” model—adapted from software development—to spark rapid, idea‑driven collaboration between artists and researchers.
The larger multi‑state climate‑art exhibition is a key event of ACA’s annual Earth Month programming. Together, the shows aim to make climate‑related research more accessible and resonant through the experience of art. The public is warmly invited, and admission is free.
Together, the projects explore climate, ecology, resilience, and community through diverse scientific lenses.
