SUMMARY:Meditative Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This meditative writing workshop offers a receptive space for self-reflection and expression for writers of all types and levels. \nThrough the exercise of writing\, participants can manage stress and foster a sense of hope and a path forward by channeling emotions into constructive\, positive narratives. For those with eco-anxiety\, it can be a therapeutic outlet for addressing ecological concerns while cultivating a mindset of optimism and action. \nThree Saturdays:  March 2\, 9\, 16\, 11:00 am-12:30 pm (Eastern)\n \n \n \n \n \n Skill level: This class is good for writers of any type and skill set: narrative\, essay\, poetry\, memoir\, and journaling.  It is an opportunity to gain fresh and new ideas\, not necessarily a finished product.  It is a judgement-free zone.  \nSupplies: All you need is a writing tool that moves nicely and feels good in your hand\, paper to write on (a spiral notebook provides easy-to-turn pages) and an open mind–leaving your inner critic at home. \nInstructor and Format: The workshop\, offered on Zoom\, is facilitated by Pauline Kochanski\, artist\, instructor\, and meditation coach in Chicago. \nClass will begin with an invitation to be relaxed and present with the work we are doing. The class time will allow for us to do at least two 10-minute writing sessions each week. For each session\, the inspiration will be a theme\, topic or word offered by Pauline. \nIn each session: \n\nParticipants will write for 10 minutes\, keeping pen to paper\nWe will then read out loud what we wrote with deep listening from each one of us\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Deep listening is a gift to the reader and the listener. Deep listening means: \n\nNo commentary\nNo critique\nNo head nodding\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Engagement in this method of practice and observation can result in improved writing skills\, but also increased self-awareness\, enhanced creativity\, and an improved sense of agency. \n \n \n \n \n \n Fee: $45. (Member discount is not available. Because of the individual attention involved\, there is a limit on the number of participants.) \n \n Register for the workshop now\n \n \n \n \n \n \nArtists for Climate Awareness is pleased to offer this workshop as part of its series to help artists learn how to use art as a way to bring social awareness to conservation efforts in your communities. \nAs such\, a portion of the workshop fee will go toward a Friends’ membership in Artists for Climate Awareness. \n Each participant will be automatically considered a member of Artists for Climate Awareness at the Friends’ level (equivalent to $15) for one year. ACA Friends get news and enhanced insider participation. \n\n\n\n\n\nWith thanks and appreciation to: \n \n\n\n \n Click to See Upcoming Workshops and Events!

SUMMARY:Anne Farley Gaines Ceramic Demonstration (Free)
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\n\nArtists for Climate Awareness and the Ivy Tech Center for Lifelong Learning are excited to invite Chicago artist\, Anne Farley Gaines\, into the Ivy Tech Ceramics Studio this summer for a free one-day demonstration in which Anne will produce a lively ceramic work based on one of her watercolors of nature! \nAnne Farley Gaines uses the emotional language of art with thematic environmental education. Her subjects focus on her passions: disappearing coastlines of the Great Lakes\, decaying trees uprooted by rising waters from glacier melt\, animal species being pushed by climate change to unprecedented areas\, forest fires\, violent storms\, and their aftermath. Recently\, on a trip through the mid-south Into Florida\, Anne journaled her observations of climate change in the regions. Her ceramic pieces will be wall plaques of plants in nature\, and will be based on the watercolors she created. \nThis demonstration will accompany a display of Anne’s work on campus and at The Waldron Arts Center\, which will be available for viewing throughout June and July. \nLearn more about Anne Farley Gaines at https://www.annefarleygaines.com/. \n\n \nThe Mission of Artists for Climate Awareness is to provide education and awareness of environmental concerns and climate change. In the context of learning artistic techniques\, we discuss how our art can serve civic engagement. Accordingly\, there will be some related discussion. \nArtists for Climate Awareness is a 501(c)3 organization and cannot advocate for any partisan cause. Artists for Climate Awareness is pleased to offer this workshop as part of its series to help artists learn how to use art as a way to bring social awareness to conservation efforts in your communities. \n\n\nWith thanks and appreciation to:\n \n\n\n\n\n\n
